A lovely sunny day in September saw us visit a Saumur Puy Notre Dame village appellation vineyard. You have to define your exact parcel of vines that make up the Puy Notre Dame appellation with a sign so that the inspector is able to come along unannounced to inspect said vines.
Anyway Sue, Howard and Peter enjoyed the sight of the transition of the green red grapes into red grapes of the cabernet franc when we walked up the south facing vineyard to see the Cabernet franc vines in the lovely sunshine. The verasion has happened and we are now looking forward to the harvest probably around end September/beginning October.
Pierre the winemaker met us in the wineroom and we then followed him into the caves to see the barrels containing the special Puy Notre Dame cuveé and finally a tasting of the estate wines.
A good day out in the vines.
