As I confirmed in my blog post on gfwineblog, the grape harvest for the sparkling Methode Traditionelle started on Monday 28 August. Ridiculously early (last year it was the 19 September) as we have had such hot dry weather over most of the summer. I popped over to an Anjou estate yesterday with some wine tour guests and witnessed the harvest of Chardonnay for the Saumur sparkling appellation. I tried the juice with the winemaker and he gave the acid level at 6.6% and the potential alcohol at 11.5% so just about right; it certainly does not need to be any more maturity. Funnily enough the winemaker missed the first day of the harvest as he was still on holiday!

Wine tours blog ing is fun with our wine tours blog so log on regularly to catch up on the latest with the wine tours scene or something quite different you never know.

Cheers.
