Our loirewinetoursblog today is about our tour with April and Sam who arrived for a day tour from Paris. We took in the majestic chateau of Brissac with its very unusual half demolished/half built facade. The old round towers remaining attached to the new straight elegant facade which punctures the towers. Most unique. The internal rooms are worth viewing including the theatre on the second floor. Of course they had to taste the chateau wines Anjou Village Brissac, Cabernet d'Anjou and Rose d'Anjou medium pinks. April enjoyed the pinks and Sam the red. We then travelled to Saumur country and took lunch at the small but perfectly formed (in terms of wine making) Domaine de l'Enchantoir with winemaker Pierre and his wife Brigitte. Brigitte was able to match their great selection of wines with Karin's lovely lunch of pate and chacuterie starter (Saumur  rouge), Quiche (Saumur Blanc Cuvee Madeleine oaked aged), Chicken and couscous (Saumur Puy Notre Dame), Goats cheeses ( Saumur Blanc), Lemon Tart (Saumur mousseux blanc). The most amazing lemon tart made by Karin to Brigitte's recipe. What a combination. Even Pierre nearly messed up by saying Karin's was better than Brigitte's. No more lemon tart for you Pierre!  Sam and April visited the vineyard and wineroom before we headed out to Montreuil Bellay and views of the chateau and then onwards to Saumur for a private tour of the caves to see how the sparkling wine was made in times gone by and then a mammoth tasting of all the sparkling wines and even some still wines before heading back to Angers for the 18.36 back to Paris. I think the count was 30 wines tasted. WOW.

A great day in the Loire valley just scratching the surface of a beautiful part of France with some great wines. Thanks to April and Sam and Pierre and Brigitte for some wonderful memories. Your good health. Safe journey back to Sam and April and hope to see you both again. Cheers.
